It would be impossible to host a conference on Emergency Medicine in the Developing World without including delegates from the developing world. Still, the stark reality for many prospective delegates from a developing world background is such that their financial means would be insufficient to enable attendance. EMSSA will therefore once again take the initiative to improve developing world attendance through the adoption scheme which brought 13 delegates from deprived backgrounds to the 2009 conference.
Through the Adopt a Delegate project, prospective delegates from a developed world setting would be able to adopt, or part finance the registration and accommodation costs of a peer from the developing world for as little as R1600 (approximately $222, €155, £135). To encourage co-ownership of the project, adopted (sponsored) delegates will carry financial responsibility for return travel to the conference. Application is easy.
